People who make it this far on Survivor usually end up getting some attention.  Colby Donaldson parlayed his Survivor popularity into some Schick razor commercials.  Elizabeth (Filarski) Hasselbeck is the defender of all things Republican on The View.  Colleen Haskell did a bad movie with Rob Schneider (is there any other kind of Rob Schneider movie?).  Richard Hatch didn’t pay his taxes and traded in his 15 minutes of fame for about 15 months behind bars.

As I was looking at Sports Illustrated’s website, I saw the same thing happening again.  They have listed one of the “fans” at #10 on their Pop Culture Hot List.  They say that this person is currently stealing the hearts of Americans on the show.  Who’s that person?  Alexis.  Alexis?  The same Alexis who hasn’t said more than 2 words the entire show?  The same Alexis who has been the most forgettable person through the first 6 weeks?  Wow.  Noticing Alexis first among the other contestants is kind of like going to the Sistine Chapel and admiring the floor.  To each their own, I guess.  On to this week’s power rankings.

  1. Ozzy-Airai has the numbers over Malakal right now, but I don’t think it matters to Ozzy.  As long as Amanda, James and Parvati are in the game he’ll be okay, especially with that immunity idol of his.
  2. Amanda-Same deal as Ozzy-if the love alliance is intact at merge time she’ll go a long way.
  3. James-If he doesn’t win the million (and the way it’s going, he just might), there may be another truck in his future.  He may again be the favourite to win the audience’s “most popular” vote during the reunion show.
  4. Jason-He’s on the tribe with the numbers and is in a nice grey area–he’s a physical asset but he’s not seen as threatening.  Not yet, anyway.
  5. Parvati-It’s the same thing every week-if her alliance is to be broken up then she would be the odds-on favourite to go.
  6. Cirie-The producers are showing Cirie as a “wild card” in this tribe, but I think she’s loyal to Ozzy and Amanda.  If Airai loses another immunity challenge, however, they may vote based on physical strength.  If they do, she may be the one to go.
  7. Erik-He looks to be on the wrong side of the numbers game on Airai.  His athleticism could save him should they go to tribal council again this week.
  8. Tracy-The best option she has is to convince Cirie and Erik to vote out Ozzy or Amanda.  It’s a tough task, but if anyone can do it it’s Tracy.
  9. Alexis–#10 on the Pop Culture Hot List, #9 in this week’s power rankings.  Invisible as she may be in the game, there are others in much more precarious positions than Alexis right now.
  10. Natalie-It’s legit this time; she’s not here just because I have her in the office pool.  She may be quiet right now, but she’s in a better spot than Eliza, Ami or Kathy.

Tune in again later this week for a preview of this week’s show!  May the tribe speak clearly to you!

Celebrity Apprentice Power Rankings–Mar. 20 March 18, 2008

A wide range of emotions will surely be felt as The Celebrity Apprentice gets down to the final four.    There’s the excitement that comes in watching the final showdown between the top 2.  The extra nervousness you feel during the boardroom sessions.  The exhiliration you feel, knowing that the person you’ve cheered for all along just might win it all.  The fear you feel in knowing that if your favourite makes it this far only to get fired, that you’ll be crushed.  Last but certainly not least, there’s the relief you feel in knowing that you only have to endure 2 more editions of the power rankings.  With that in mind, here’s how I see the final four:

  1. Piers-In a previous preview I wondered if Piers’ list of wealthy contacts was the main reason for his impressive performance.  Last week he answered that question with a resounding “no”, helping to win the challenge without the help of his secret weapon.  This competition is Piers’ to lose.  He’s the clear front-runner.  If he’s not in the final two there ought to be an investigation.
  2. Carol-I said a couple of weeks ago that she’s close to being a contender.  Well, I think she’s there.  A string of strong performances since the Easy Pay fiasco, which included a second project manager win, puts her right in the thick of things.
  3. Lennox-Even though he has the same number of project manager wins as Carol and Piers I think that those two would raise more money for their charities in the final challenge.  The champ has fought a good fight, but I think this is where the referee is about to step in and tell Lennox he’s had enough.
  4. Trace-It could be argued that he would be the best person to go up against Piers in the final challenge.  So why is he at the bottom of the rankings?  No wins as project manager.  He’s the smartest, classiest and most creative person on the show, but in the end the results just aren’t there.  It will depress me if it happens, but I see a sad and respectful firing in Trace’s immediate future.

Stay tuned later in the week for a preview of this week’s final showdown and a recap of this week’s action!  Enjoy!
